On 20 June 2026, as the mobile clinic supported by Bread and Water for Africa® arrived in Jono Village, one mother came forward carrying her nine-month-old baby. The woman lives in the village with her family, where small-scale farming provides their main source of livelihood.
For several days, her infant had been unwell, struggling with a persistent fever and a widespread skin rash. The nearest health facility was far away, and the cost of transportation was beyond what the family could manage at the time. With each passing day, the mother grew more worried, unsure how she would get the care her child needed.
When the mobile clinic reached her community, that distance no longer stood between the child and treatment. The medical team conducted a comprehensive clinical examination, diagnosed the child, and provided appropriate medicines, including antipyretics, antibiotics, and supportive treatment based on the assessment. They also guided the mother on how to administer the medicine properly, recognize danger signs, and know when to seek further medical care.
Soon after receiving treatment, the baby's fever began to subside, the rash started to improve, and the infant showed encouraging signs of recovery. For the mother, the visit brought more than medicine; it brought relief, reassurance, and renewed hope that her child would be well.
"Without this mobile clinic, I would not have been able to take my baby to the hospital because traveling is very difficult and expensive. Today my child has received the medicines she needed, and I am grateful to Our Aim Foundation, Bread and Water for Africa, and everyone whose generosity makes these visits possible. You have brought hope to families like mine."
At Bread and Water for Africa®, we truly believe everyone deserves access to basic healthcare, no matter where they are. We're excited to be closing the gap through our support of mobile health services in Malawi!
