Bakery Project Opens in Bangolan

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

oven-smBread and Water for Africa® is proud to announce the completion of Phase I of its bakery project in Bangolan, Cameroon. The bakery is the second initiative in which we have partnered with Hope Services of Cameroon. This community-based initiative will allow 100 AIDS widows to provide for themselves and their children through the baking and sale of bread in their own neighborhood.

bakery-projectThe facility was inaugurated on February 7, 2013, in a ceremony attended by the mayor of Bangolan and other civil authorities, religious and traditional leaders, Hope Services Board Members, and His Royal Highness the Fon of Bangolan (the local chief).

Although the bakery portion of the project is complete, the full project will grow to include a full multi-purpose skill center, with training programs in advanced bread-making skills, soap making, oil processing, counseling, and more. The eventual expansion will allow for greater participation of the community and access to employment opportunities.

It is a true representation of Bread and Water for Africa®’s mission to create a brighter future for Africa’s children through the creation of job opportunities that break the cycle of poverty that so many remain embedded in.
