From Fear to Control: Brima’s Journey with Diabetes

Thursday, February 5, 2026

After months of experiencing unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and frequent urination, 55-year-old Brima Abdulai, a dedicated rice farmer from Mofwe Village, embarked on a three-mile journey to the Kaniya Health Center in search of answers. There, Nurse Francess Monsaray diagnosed him with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and provided comprehensive education on managing the condition, including vital dietary changes and how to adhere to his medication. She also started him on Metformin Hydrochloride, made available through RYDO-SL with excellent partner support.

“Initially, I saw diabetes as a death sentence,” Brima reflected. “But the nurse took the time to explain everything to me with such kindness.” Thanks to consistent treatment and follow-up care, Brima's blood sugar levels stabilized, his strength returned, and he joyfully resumed his farming work.

“This medicine has transformed my life,” he expressed with heartfelt gratitude. “I am truly thankful to RYDO-SL, Bread and Water for Africa®, and MAP International for their unwavering support.”
