Toss aside the usual notions of baseball being an all-American past time, – because Chicago White Sox pro-scout, Mr. John Tumminia, is taking his baseball clinic to our partners at the Kipkeino Primary School…in Kenya!

A nonprofit organization founded by Mr. John Tumminia, Chicago White Sox pro-scout and lover of baseball, provides free clinics for boys and girls who have never had the chance to play baseball or softball, due to limited access.

Recently, Mr. Tumminia’s team traveled to Monte Plata, Dominican Republic and The Native American Reservation at Pine Ridge, South Dakota last year. Running Strong for American Indian Youth^® (RSAIY) spokesperson and former Olympic 10k Gold Medalist, Billy Mills, attended this event last year to demonstrate his support for this effort to bring sportsmanship, healthy habits, and the love of the game to these children. As an affiliate charity founded by the same parent organization as Bread and Water for Africa^® – Christian Relief Services Charities – RSAIY had an intimate awareness of the equal impact that this baseball clinic could have for our partners in Africa.

One thing led to another and we are proud to announce that this year, Mr. Tumminia and the baseball clinic will travel to Kenya in October 2013 to bring baseball and its lessons to the children at Kipkeino Primary School. At least 500 students from the Kipkeino Primary School and others from the surrounding area will benefit from Mr. Tumminia’s clinic and experience “the love of the game”.

We look forward to keeping our supporters up to date on the outcome of this unique experience. Six instructors and one field coordinator will be traveling to Kenya and their trips, along with all the items such as gloves, Whiffle balls/bats, and tees are donated by manufacturers and the White Sox as an organization. The Kenya team is headed by Rob Bell, former Major League pitcher and two Major League scouts, along with several coaches, Sean Kober a field coordinator and photographer Will Parmeter.

All of the instructors perform this act of kindness and charity without getting a stipend from any organization. Mr. Tumminia stated “We are attempting to ‘make a difference’ by serving others with joy and sharing our gifts with the youth of the world. It may seem to others that we are trying to be world savers. No, this is just our ‘small’ way of giving back on a humanitarian level.”
