Precious’s Dream of Becoming a Teacher Is Within Reach

Friday, September 4, 2026

Bread and Water for Africa® implements education initiatives across various sub-Saharan countries, with a significant focus on Zimbabwe. Among the beneficiaries of these programs is Precious, a student whose experience exemplifies the importance of providing educational opportunities for girls in underserved, remote areas of Zimbabwe. Her story highlights the challenges and successes of promoting gender equity in education in this context.

Precious, a 12-year-old student, lives in the rural village of Mambondiani in Dora with her elderly grandmother after having lost both her parents.

The household faces significant economic challenges, which had been impacting her access to education, Rumbidzai told us.

However, “Through the generous support of Bread and Water for Africa®, Precious received assistance with school fees, examination fees, and essential stationery,” says Rumbidzai.

“This intervention enabled her to continue her education without interruption.

“With support from Bread and Water for Africa®, Precious demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication, successfully passing her Grade 7 examinations.

“Her achievement marks a significant milestone in her educational journey.”

Precious has expressed a strong desire to pursue a career in teaching, aiming to support other children in similar circumstances.

“Her progress highlights the impact that the Shinga Village School Fees Assistance Programme makes on vulnerable children,” added Rumbidzai.

“The support from Bread and Water for Africa® has significantly enhanced Precious's opportunities for future development and self-sufficiency.”

And as for Precious herself:

“Thank you to the supporters of Bread and Water for Africa® for helping me.

“I would like to become a teacher and help other children like me.

“I will work hard and make you proud."

“The Lerato Children’s Home is grateful for the continuous financial support that is changing the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.

“These programs have positively changed the lives of the orphaned and vulnerable children.”

We are incredibly thankful for our amazing supporters and donors who generously invest in the education program in Zimbabwe. Your heartfelt contributions make a significant difference, empowering us to change lives and create brighter futures!
