Rainy Sunday… That did NOT stop us!

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Nearly a dozen runner and walkers spent a rainy Sunday morning, June 3, to participate in the Bread and Water for Africa® “ Wata for Salone! ” 5K in Arlington, Virginia.

The dedicated participants joined together with even more volunteers and those who supported them to raise almost half of the $7,500 necessary to dig a much-needed well in Sierra Leone this year.

Today, there are 300 students a school in a small village in rural Sierra Leone who risk illness and even death every time they take a drink of water from an unsafe, potentially contaminated source such as a stream, pond or even puddles in the middle of a dirt road.

For the participants who ran, walked and volunteer in the 5K on the dreary Sunday morning, the steady rain was no deterrent for them armed with the knowledge that getting their clothes and feet soaked was a minor inconvenience compared with all the good they were doing.

And for our supporters who live across the country who weren’t able to participate in the Wata for Salone! 5K, there is still time to help us reach our goal.

Between now and Sunday, June 17, you can contribute directly to support the water well project by giving with your heart to those who gave with their feet to prevent illness to hundreds of school children, and hundreds more living in the surrounding village with the gift of clean water.
