When Survival Is at Stake, Bread and Water for Africa® Responds

Tuesday, September 23, 2025

Right now, children are barely surviving against incredibly harsh conditions all across Africa in countries like Ethiopia, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and in refugee camps in Kenya.

These children simply need the basic necessities of life like food, water, and medicine.

Today,  more than 92,000,000 children in Africa are suffering from extreme malnutrition! That makes them susceptible to deadly diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, cholera, and meningitis.

Hundreds of thousands of these children face life-threatening upper respiratory infections that can easily be treated, because of their weakened immune systems.

For thirty-nine years, Bread and Water for Africa® has been helping combat disease epidemics like Cholera, Ebola, and famine in Africa by providing food, water, medicines, and medical supplies to clinics and orphanages.

We provide the medicines and supplies to our partners who are already on the ground – trained and working hard in the clinics to fight these treatable, but often neglected, diseases.

Our goal is to support communities by increasing accessibility to healthcare and providing a healthy environment through educational programs on proper hygiene and sanitation.

Bread and Water for Africa® has been working in Africa for many years, achieving numerous successes; yet, there is still much to be done.

Thanks to the supporters of Bread and Water for Africa® we can help local African communities accomplish for orphaned children:

  • Save lives with quality medicines and vaccines.
  • Rid little bodies of infections and treatable diseases.
  • Teach healthy sanitation to prevent the spread of disease.
  • Purify contaminated water with modern filtration techniques and clean wells.
  • Provide shoes and clothing to protect children’s bodies against the harsh African climate and environment.
  • Provide nutritious food to combat malnutrition and support post-medical treatment recovery.
  • Provide vocational training and education for eager boys and girls.
  • Provide basic education to break the cycle of poverty.

Feeding orphaned children is among our top priorities, but the current skyrocketing commodity prices in Africa are making it increasingly difficult for our orphan care partners to ensure that all the children in their care are properly nourished.

Bread and Water for Africa® supports have been – and continues to be – vital in our mission to continue supporting life-saving efforts in local communities in Africa.
