On August 27th, our tour departed from Nairobi, Kenya for our first stop at the Treetops Hotel in the Aberdares Highland range where we were serenaded by a herd of 38 elephants at the water hole outside of our hotel windows. We then traveled to Lake Nakuru and the world famous Masaai Mara Game Reserve where our game drives brought us face to face with surreal landscapes and the magic of wildlife in their own habitat.

Just when we thought we had lost our hearts to the pure beauty of Kenya’s mountains, sunsets, and wildlife reserves, we surrendered them all over again happily to the orphans at Lewa Children’s Home in Eldoret, Kenya. These children thrive on the generous gifts and compassion of our supporters like you!

The children at Lewa and Phyllis Keino have invited us back again next year and we so hope that you can join us on this once-in-a-lifetime trip. Not only is it an opportunity to experience the culture, hospitality, and awe-inspiring natural beauty that Kenya has to offer, but it is a unique chance to visit a project that you either support through Bread and Water for Africa or a project that seeks to embody international development and grassroots change on a holistic level.

While traveling to a potentially new country or continent and planning the details of such a trip can be intimidating, through this tour with Bread and Water for Africa’s tour – you have the security of traveling with an English and Swahili-speaking guide along with other interested and like-minded individuals from around the world, and with the personal assistance from Bread and Water for Africa throughout the trip planning process. From applying for your visas to packing to getting onto the plane – our staff is here to provide ongoing support from the moment you decide to go on the trip, til the moment you step onto your flight back home at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Kenyan Safari Itinerary – July 21 – August 1, 2013

Day 1-2, July 21st-22nd: Washington DC to Nairobi

Depart Washington, DC on a flight to Nairobi

Arrive at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on July 22nd where the group will transfer to your hotel

Overnight at the Nairobi hotel

Day 3, July 23rd : Nairobi to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive to Sweetwaters Chimapnzee Sanctuary at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Arrive in time for lunch.

Overnight at lodge at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Day 4, July 24th : Lake Nakuru

Breakfast. Depart for Lake Nakuru National Park.

Lunch at Lodge, depart for afternoon game drive within Lake Nakuru Reserve.

Overnight at the Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 5, July 25th : Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Drive to Maasai Mara arriving in time for Lunch at Lodge.

Short relaxation followed by an afternoon game drive.

Dinner and overnight at Masaai Mara lodge.

Days 6-7, July 26th –July 27th: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Full days in Maasai Mara enjoying the landscapes and wildlife with a morning and afternoon game viewing drive.

Optional excursions include: Maasai village visit, nature walks, hot air balloon safari.

Dinner and overnight at Lodge.

Day 8, July 28th : Maasai Mara to Eldoret

Breakfast at lodge, pack lunches for drive to Eldoret, Kenya.

Drive to Eldoret to arrive at the Lewa Children’s Home in time for dinner

Overnight at the Lewa Children’s Home.

Day 9-10, July 29th – July 30th: Eldoret, Lewa Children’s Home

Full day in Eldoret, touring the Lewa Children’s Home, Kipkeino School and Baraka Farm, interacting with the staff and all of the children that live there, and realizing the impact of this oasis of hope on the lives of all involved.

Overnight at the Lewa Children’s Home.

Day 11, July 31st : Eldoret to Nairobi to DC

Flight from Eldoret to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back to Washington, DC

Day 12, August 1st : Washington, DC

Arrive in Washington and continue travel onward to respective home airports.

*Please be aware of a $20 fee for the Maasai Village visit, payable directly to the Keekorok Lodge. We also suggest a $15 per day donation to the Lewa Children’s Home for every day that we’re there to cover the cost of food. Prices subject to change and will increase as the date of the safari nears. International airfare not included, but can be arranged on your behalf.

*Please note that we also suggest a $30 per day donation to the Lewa Children’s Home for every day that we’re there to cover the cost of food – which will add $90 to the trip cost listed.
